Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has vowed to make Cristiano Ronaldo the highest-paid player on the planet to ensure he stays at the club.
Ronaldo, who said he was 'sad' earlier in the season, has been linked with a sensational return to Manchester United. He left United for a world record £80m in 2009 but speculation over his future has intensified this season.
Sir Alex Ferguson mentioned a possible return for Ronaldo before United's Champions League showdown with Madrid.
David Moyes will officially take over from Ferguson on July 1 and reports have suggested that United have the funds to make Ronaldo and Real an offer.
The Spanish club's president, though, says their star player could be offered a new deal that would make him the best paid player in world football.
That honour is currently held by Anzhi's Samuel Eto'o, who is on an eye-watering £350,000 a WEEK.
President Perez told Cadena SER: "When we spoke, I told Ronaldo that we would do everything in our power to ensure that he wasn’t sad. He went through a rough patch, and that’s that. After that, he has been exceptional.
"Cristiano has been exemplary and has never had problems with anyone. He’s the best player in the world and I want him to be the best paid in the world."
