MANCHESTER UNITED are lining up a sensational move to bring Luka Modric back to England.

Modric has had a mixed spell at the Bernebeu, and in fact was voted one of the worst La Liga summer signings along with Barcelona's Alex Song.

Though Chelsea's manager-in-waiting Jose Mourinho's interest in Modric could put him on a collision course with David Moyes, Manchester United are desperate to find a long-term successor to Paul Scholes.

The Premier League champions have also been eyeing up a move for the £25m rated Cesc Fabregas, who is reported to have done some house hunting in London in recent weeks.

According to a British paper, United had been keen admirers of Modric, though Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was reticent to sell to a rival.

It is also thought that Moyes is a big fan of Modric, who scored the equaliser in Real's last 16 Champions League tie against United before Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner to book their place in the quarter-finals.

Modric, who signed for Real for £33m, struck four times in all competitions last season.
